The Zillertal is located in the west of Austria in Tyrol and stretches over 47 km from Strass im Zillertal to Hintertux. With its sunny valley floor and impressive mountain scenery, it is a popular destination for nature lovers and active vacationers.
Around 36,000 people live in 25 municipalities over an area of 1,098 km². The name of the valley comes from the river Ziller, which flows into the Inn near Strass. From Mayrhofen onwards, the valley branches out into several side valleys such as Zillergrund, Zemmgrund, Stilluptal and Gerlostal with impressive alpine landscapes.
Around 40% of the area belongs to the Zillertal Alps High Mountain Nature Park, which stretches from the village of Ginzling (1,000 m) to the 3,509 m high Hochfeiler and encompasses all altitude levels of the Alps – from the valley floor to over 80 glaciers.
